12 hours of swimming fun: inclusion in the Altdorf outdoor pool on July 12th!
On Saturday, July 12, 2025, a special event will take place in the Altdorf outdoor pool near Nuremberg: the 12-hour inclusion swimming. The event, organized by the Deutschland Schwimmt Foundation in cooperation with Lebenshilfe Nürnberger Land, aims to send a visible signal for inclusion and safety in the water. From 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., people of all ages, with and without disabilities, have the opportunity to swim together and discover the fascinating movement space that is water. Water offers unique opportunities for participation that are often limited on land, emphasizes the German Swimming Youth.
Janis McDavid, an impressive motivational speaker and ambassador for the foundation, will attend the event as a special guest. Born without arms and legs, he exudes the motto: “Water knows no barriers – only trust.” His commitment is intended to inspire participants and spectators to recognize the diversity of swimmers and promote inclusion.
Goals and supporting program
The main goal of the event is to swim as many meters as possible to support the Water Habituation for Toddlers project. This also highlights the need for children, regardless of physical or mental impairments, to have the opportunity to learn to swim. The event is accompanied by an extensive supporting program that includes aqua fitness, safety and rescue tests, as well as live music. A highlight will be the official opening at 12 p.m., followed by an award ceremony and awards ceremony at 8 p.m.
- Einlass & Anmeldung: 07:00 Uhr
- Offizieller Startschuss: 08:00 Uhr
- Ende der Schwimmzeit: 20:00 Uhr
- Preise für die weiteste geschwommene Strecke und andere Kategorien
Participants can look forward to special competitions, including awards for the youngest and oldest swimmers as well as the largest team. These competitions not only promote participation in swimming, but also a sense of community and the joy of exercise in the water.
Conditions of participation and registration
Participation in inclusion swimming requires a swimming ability of 50 meters or more. Whether individuals, families, teams or groups – everyone is welcome to take part. Swimmers with disabilities should bring a companion to ensure safety. Registration can be done online in advance, which allows participants to get started straight away. Admission is free, but there is also the option to purchase supporter tickets, with a portion of which goes towards the project.
The event also has the support of other organizations and partners committed to inclusion in water sports. It is important to overcome barriers and create an environment where everyone can enjoy the positive experiences of swimming.
