Gerstetten celebrates: promotion in the thrilling final against Burgberg!

VfL Gerstetten celebrated a great success on June 15, 2025: The “junior team” under coach Harald Fronmüller secured promotion with a 2-1 win against SG Burgberg/Hohenmemmingen. The exciting match took place in the Giengen TSG stadium in front of 850 spectators and in summer temperatures. With an average age of just 19.8 years, Gerstetter's starting eleven was significantly younger than that of their opponents, whose average age was 29.1 years.

The game started turbulently: In the 12th minute, SG Burgberg/Hohenmemmingen took the early lead with a free kick from Kilian Eberhardt. Gerstetten showed more possession of the ball, but didn't create any compelling chances. The game changed quickly in the second half. Benjamin Bayer equalized in the 47th minute, followed by a goal from Steffen Wegmann just 70 seconds later, which put the Gerstetters in the lead. The rest of the game petered out, but Gerstetten defended their narrow lead until the final whistle.

Promotion and trainer voices

The Gerstetter promotion party began with the final whistle. Coach Harald Fronmüller expressed satisfaction, but criticized his team's performance. Adrian Seibold, who acts as a playing assistant coach, emphasized the desire to strive for promotion to the district league and later to the state league. The young goalkeeper Lenny Fronmüller, son of the coach, was happy and cited fitness and toughness as crucial factors for success.

Markus Maier, the coach of SG Burgberg/Hohenmemmingen, was disappointed by the defeat and has already announced that he will vacate his post. SG Burgberg/Hohenmemmingen was active in the district league A Ostwürttemberg 3 this season and played its home games at the Hohenmemmingen sports facility, which has a capacity of 1,500 spectators.
