May Festival at the Rückersdorf Institute for the Blind: A celebration of diversity!
The May festival of the Rückersdorf Institute for the Blind took place today, which was held instead of the traditional summer festival. In bright weather on the Dachsberg, numerous visitors gathered to enjoy the varied program that was organized by the institute's employees, classes and residential groups. The selection of food was varied and ranged from homemade cakes to cotton candy to grilled delicacies.
A highlight of the festival was the musical performance by the in-house band “STUDIO D”. This group, which consists of students from the Institute for the Blind and is supported by teacher Torsten Nowitzki, has already developed its own songs and performs frequently. STUDIO D created an exuberant atmosphere during the festival, which not only served as entertainment but also offered space for important topics.
Important impulses and actions
As part of the event, a committed employee gave an impulse on the topic of “being different”, which stimulated many of those present to think. While the May Festival offered many positive moments, the parents' council's motorcycle campaign planned for that day had to be canceled at short notice. However, this campaign will be rescheduled next year, which increases anticipation for future events.
STUDIO D's performance was not only a form of entertainment, but also a part of a larger initiative. On Friday, May 2nd, the group will perform at the “FIS – Fürther Inclusive Sound Festival” in the Kulturforum Fürth. Here the musicians will present their own compositions to a wide audience, which will strengthen the visibility and commitment of the Rückersdorf Institute for the Blind. You can find more information about this event on the [Blindeninstitut Rückersdorf] website (https://www.blindeninstitut.de/de/aktuelles/rueckersdorf/konzertankuendigung-studio-d/).
Overall, the May Festival was a successful event that not only celebrated the community within the Institute for the Blind, but also highlighted important topics of inclusion and togetherness. Events like these are essential to promote exchange and understanding between people with and without disabilities. The Rückersdorf Institute for the Blind will continue to support and organize such important events in the future in order to strengthen social ties.
