Whitsun Festival on the Schwarzhorn: Despite the rain, Wißgoldingen celebrated!

On the Whitsun weekend, the Wißgoldinger Musikverein organized a traditional Whitsun festival at the festival site at the foot of the Schwarzhorn, which took place from June 8th to 9th, 2025. Despite the initial rain, numerous visitors found their way to the festival site on foot or by bike. The Treffelhausen traditional band opened the festival on Sunday. Due to the unsettled weather, the event had to be moved to the marquee, which many guests were happy to do.

The first chairman of the music association, Michael Wiget, pointed out that the weather was the biggest challenge for the event. It has become a custom in the region for families and friends to hike in groups at Pentecost to celebrate together at the Schwarzhorn.

Dedicated helpers and a wide range of offerings

Around 30 helpers had already actively set up the festival site the day before. On the day itself there were another 70 active supporters who helped make the festival a success. The catering options were varied: in addition to beer and wine, cakes, fries and grilled sausages were also offered. New to the catering program was the vegetarian “Schwarzhorn Burger”.

4,000 water rolls and 2,200 red sausages were available for the hungry hikers. Last year the organizers were able to sell 500 kilograms of fries. After the rain, several hundred hikers came to the festival site, including Bernd Klaus from Donzdorf, who reported on his 1.5-hour hike and reminisced about previous festival offerings.

Music and worship

The musical entertainment during the festival was provided by the Treffelhausen traditional band, the youth band and the active band of the MW Wißgoldingen. On Whit Monday a service took place on the Schwarzhorn at 10:30 a.m., which was organized by a brass group from the music club. The next few hours were also filled with musical performances, including the Bargau Music Association.

The Pentecost festival not only offered musical entertainment, but also the opportunity to go hiking. The area surrounding the Schwarzhorn is ideal for small and large hikes, for example the circular hike around the Schwarzhorn, which leads past the “Reiterles Chapel”. In addition, the local recreation area “Kaltes Feld” can be reached in less than 30 minutes on foot.

Overall, the festivities attracted numerous guests who enjoyed the view of Wißgoldingen and the surrounding Three Kaiser Mountains (Hohenstaufen, Rechberg, Stuifen). The Wißgoldingen Music Association invited everyone to take part in these festive days and experience the regional traditions.
