Usury twins stay with the Islanders – Schiller extends his stay in Heilbronn!
The EV Lindau Islanders can look forward to continuity in the squad for the coming season. Corvin and Robin Wucher have extended their contracts for another season. Corvin Wucher will once again wear the number 16, while his brother Robin will wear the number 18. This decision was crucial to promote team cohesion and further improve sporting performance, report the Lindau Islanders.
However, a medical procedure bothers Robin Wucher. The defender has to undergo surgery for a hernia and will not be available next season. In the meantime, Philipp Faulhaber was signed by the Höchstadt Alligators to fill the gap in the squad. Faulhaber, who previously played three games for the Islanders in the 2022/2023 season, will now wear shirt number 25. The sporting management under Milo Markovic is optimistic about the latest squad changes, which also reflect the need for adjustments in order to position the team successfully, according to the club's website.
Further personnel in the major league
Another player, Lars Schiller, has also fleshed out his plans for next season. The 28-year-old defender is staying with the Heilbronner Falken and, after a remarkable year that included eight goals and 33 assists in 41 games, has decided to spend another year in the Oberliga in 2025/2026. Schiller, who is studying business administration at the University of Mannheim, will soon receive his second bachelor's degree, making him a valuable asset to the Falken.
However, developments in German ice hockey are not just limited to the Lindau Islanders and the Heilbronner Falken. There are various changes on the transfer market. For example, Red Bull Munich decided not to extend the contract with striker Trevor Parkes after seven years. EV Landshut has also parted ways with assistant coach Christoph Schubert, who was Heiko Vogel's assistant for a year.
Young talent and innovations in ice hockey
There is also good news from the youth sector: U-national striker Julius Marsh has reached the Memorial Cup of the Canadian youth leagues with the Moncton Wildcats after scoring 16 points in 19 playoff games, including a key assist in the QMJHL championship game. These successes are part of short but decisive turning points in the careers of young players, which are promoted by the various leagues in German professional ice hockey.
Around 3,600 active players play in the German ice hockey system, which consists of four leagues – DEL, DEL2, OLS and OLN – including 1,300 professional players. The competition is high and since the 2020/21 season, measures have been taken to promote the development of young German players on the official game sheet. At least three places must be reserved for development contract players and additional places for U23 and U24 players in order to ensure the integration of young talent into the teams.
All in all, the ice hockey landscape in Germany is dynamic and shows continuous changes that include both player changes and the promotion of young talent. The coming season outlook promises many exciting developments for both the Lindau Islanders and other teams.
