100 years of Hellershof Church: festivities and encounters in Sandland!
Next weekend, the Protestant church in Hellershof is celebrating a very special event: its 100th anniversary. The church was ceremoniously inaugurated on August 30, 1925, attended by around 2,000 people. This anniversary will be celebrated with a series of festive events planned from October 16th to 26th. Such venerable guests were present at the inauguration of the church that they were transported to the ceremony on wagons from Welzheim - an image of the time that is firmly anchored in the community's history. The 80 meter long garlands that were wound around the church testify to the festive atmosphere of the day, on which two children were baptized.
Numerous activities are planned, starting with an afternoon of meeting on Thursday, October 16th at 2:00 p.m. The focus here is on the theme of “living mercy” from Luke 6:36-42. The trombone choir will perform that same evening at 8 p.m. Friday, October 17th, begins with the Minijungschart and then moves on to the district synod in Schorndorf, followed by a hometown evening in the church. In this context, images and video clips from 100 years of church history will be shown, accompanied by musical performances by the Liederkranz and the Hellershof Trombone Choir.
Festivities and church services
The celebrations continue on Saturday, October 18th, with a prayer circle and a praise evening organized by the Lifeline Worship Band from Abtsgmünd. The highlight of the anniversary will be on Sunday, October 19th. A special anniversary service with Pastor Patrick Steinbacher will take place here at 10:00 a.m. The service is accompanied by the Auszeit choir and other groups, followed by a concert by the trombone choir and a lunch together in the parish hall.
On October 26th, the 19th Sunday after Trinity, there will be another service led by Pastor i. R. Eberhard Bauer to conclude the anniversary with dignity.
Additional events and social actions
As part of the celebrations, the “LIGHT IN THE EAST” Christmas campaign will also be launched, which will collect packages for needy children, seniors and families in Eastern Europe until November 14th. These can be dropped off at around 150 collection points and distributed by local partners.
There will also be a lecture on the history of the people of Israel and its biblical meaning on November 1st. This evening begins at 7:00 p.m. in the community center with Christoph Scharnweber from the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem.
The Hellershof Church has experienced many stories over the last century and is now celebrated with festive and community events that reflect both the look back on a long tradition and the prospect of the future.
