Graz team wins silver at international emergency medicine rally!
At the international emergency medicine competition “Rallye Rejviz” in the Czech Republic, which took place at the weekend, a team from Graz impressively won the silver medal. After an intensive period of 26 hours, members Jacob Rockstroh, Carola Tamm, Elena Noé and Anastasia Grumeth competed in the “International Emergency Teams with Doctor” category against over 70 teams from 12 nations. The event is known for its highly complex and realistic scenarios, which are often simulated at night under extreme conditions, as 5min.at reports.
In total, the teams had to deal with 11 different emergency scenarios, including situations such as a mass casualty incident, the resuscitation of a seriously ill child and the care of several marathon injured people. The level of challenges requires not only extensive medical knowledge, but also rapid decision-making and excellent teamwork under enormous time pressure.
Strengths of the Graz team
The Graz team distinguished itself through intensive preparation and a strong passion for emergency medicine. Team spirit and the ability to work together in stressful situations are considered key success factors that brought the team to the top of the competition. “We are proud of our achievement and the international recognition we received,” said Jacob Rockstroh afterwards.
The rector of the Medical University of Graz, Andrea Kurz, and the KAGes board chairman Gerhard Stark congratulated the team on this great success. “These successes show the high quality of the training and the immense enthusiasm for emergency medicine among our students and employees,” emphasized Kurz. The Board of Directors for Finance and Technology, Mag. DDr. Ulf Drabek, and State Health Councilor Dr. Karlheinz Kornhäusl joined in the congratulations.
A look at the competition
Another team from KAGes and Med Uni Graz also won first place in the same category, which underlines the success of the Graz teams in this international competition. The competition also simulated other challenging scenarios, such as caring for a critically ill newborn and treating seriously injured people after a lightning strike. The team leader Dr. Bernhard Kowalski emphasized how important the exchange of experiences in international competitions is for the daily work of doctors.
In order to continuously improve the level of knowledge, the knowledge gained flows into the team and emergency training of all those involved, which ultimately also benefits the quality of patient care.
