Ludwigsburg celebrates sporting triumphs: double for the HBL team and MHP Riesen!

On May 25, 2025, the MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg basketball team celebrated a special end to the season, which was characterized by happy faces and a festive atmosphere. Over 300 fans and partners gathered to honor the successful 22/23 season. This season, which was described as a season of transition, brought a lot of positive things as the goals set were exceeded.

The team reached the semifinals of the playoffs, ultimately finishing in fourth place. Alexander Reil, the first board member, reflected on the media's initial forecasts, which predicted a difficult course for the season. The MHP RIESEN also moved into the TOP FOUR for the BBL Cup, but had to admit defeat to Oldenburg. Reil emphasized the importance of staying in the league and the consistency of the team, which has been at least in the semi-finals of the BBL playoffs for four years.

Celebrations in Ludwigsburg

After the last away game in Blomberg, various celebrations took place to honor the team's successes. As part of the graduation, the team was entered into the Golden Book of the city of Ludwigsburg. Mayor Matthias Knecht was present at the celebrations and praised the team's performance. He emphasized that the city's focus is increasingly on ball sports outside of football, with the MHP RIESEN being a sporting flagship in basketball.

The final celebrations also included a festive parade through the city, which took place parallel to the parade of the traditional horse market. Finally, there was a celebratory get-together in a restaurant near the MHPArena, where the honoring of the sixth title in the club's history was duly celebrated.

Farewells and outlook

Alongside the celebration, it was also announced that players Jacob Patrick and Sebastian Hartmann would be leaving the team as they continue their college careers in the US. Jacob Patrick, who has been active in Ludwigsburg since he was 12, also became a national player this year. The team is happy about the good atmosphere in the MHPArena and the high number of spectators associated with basketball in the region.

The easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), the umbrella organization of the highest German basketball league, has developed increasingly in recent years. According to Statista, around 68 million people in Germany have an affinity for basketball. Despite stagnating interest levels, the German Basketball Association continues to grow, with a record number of members at the beginning of 2024. The MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg have successfully positioned themselves in this dynamic landscape and are making an important contribution to basketball culture in Germany. While the team failed to battle any of these last season, the signs point to continued success next season.
