Wenzel Hablik: Enjoying art from Italy to Lithuania in Itzehoe!

Wenzel Hablik (1881-1934) was a versatile artist who achieved great importance as a painter, graphic artist and craftsman. His work ranges from utopian architectural designs to impressive interior design. The Wenzel Hablik Museum in Itzehoe, which presents the artist's extensive work, is currently closed due to general renovation work. Hablik's influence on the contemporary art scene is still evident, particularly through his participation in several international projects. This further highlights the relevance of his work in modern art, reports YourAdvertiser.

A particular focus is on the Italian publisher Franco Maria Ricci srl in Fontanellato, which is known for its luxury editions. This specific connection to Hablik is currently enjoying great attention. FMR Magazine, which has been published again since 2021 after a break, will publish an essay about Wenzel Hablik by the architectural historian Ezio Godoli in the spring 2025 issue. Godoli is already known for his curatorship during a major Hablik exhibition in Florence, Vienna and Schleswig in 1989/90.

New releases about Hablik

The essay in question, titled “Crystals, Castles, Seas and Stars,” is 20 pages long and includes 15 reproductions of Hablik’s works. The essay not only conveys the beauty and complexity of Hablik's art, but also links his ideas to literary works. The new edition of George Sands' novel Laura or the Journey into the Crystal includes a reproduction of Hablik's remarkable painting Crystal Castle in the Sea. This edition is offered in French, Italian and English and also comes in a deluxe version with a black, gold-embossed silk cover.

The Wenzel Hablik Museum is run by Dr. Axel Feuß, who oversees international exhibitions. Some of Hablik's most important works can currently be seen in excerpts in various museums. Among other things, Wenzel Hablik's “Starry Sky” will be exhibited at the M. K. Čiurlionis National Art Museum in Kaunas, Lithuania until October 12, 2023.

An etching from Hablik's portfolio will be presented in the German Emigration Center in Bremerhaven until January 7, 2026.

The Municipal Art Gallery in Turin has Hablik's remarkable 1909 painting “Starry Sky” in its collection from the end of October 2023 to March 1, 2026.
