Heilbronn in turmoil: Beyerdynamic sold to Chinese company!

Beyerdynamic, a traditional company from Heilbronn known for its high-quality microphones and headphones, changed ownership on June 5, 2025. The Chinese group Cosonic Intelligent took over the company for a purchase price of around 122 million euros, which is 14 times its 2024 net profit. This acquisition was officially confirmed on June 5, 2025 and represents a significant shift in the 100-year history of the brand, which was founded in Berlin in 1924 by Eugen Beyer and has been based in Heilbronn since 1948.

The managing director of Beyerdynamic, Andreas Rapp, tries to calm the workforce. He emphasizes that all employment contracts remain valid and that Cosonic is interested in the Heilbronn location. Development, production and logistics should remain in Germany. In addition, Cosonic plans to use the quality label “Handmade in Heilbronn/Germany” to strengthen the brand in Europe. Despite these assurances, the mood among the approximately 360 employees in Heilbronn and Talheim remains tense.

Uncertainty among employees

The IG Metall union has already reported uncertainty and skepticism on the part of employees. This comes against the background that many employees were only recently informed of the change in ownership, which raises concerns about possible relocation of production and know-how to China. Works council chairman Johann Albach expressed his criticism that the works council was only informed about the sale very late and that the workforce is worried about the future of the company. A staff meeting is scheduled for Thursday in the Heilbronn union hall to provide employees with further information.

Rapp confirms that the takeover is intended to continue and further develop Beyerdynamic's 100-year history under the new ownership relationship. At the same time, the shareholders have sold all shares because they claim that they can no longer finance future investments with the current structure.

The acquisition of Beyerdynamic by Cosonic represents a further step in the globalization of the market for audiovisual technology. However, the uncertainties associated with such takeovers should not be underestimated. IG Metall demands a clear commitment to the locations in Heilbronn and Talheim, while the managing directors try to ensure security for the employees.

For many observers and employees, the question remains as to how this takeover will have a long-term impact on the traditional brand and its business operations in Germany.
