50 years of the DRK Oldendorf: anniversary, celebrations and activities for seniors!
On June 9, 2025, the DRK Oldendorf local association will celebrate its 50th anniversary. The association was founded at the invitation of Mayor Klaus Werner Junge. The original idea was to set up a nurses' station, but this was not realized. The association started with 42 members, and the number rose to 70 in the first year. Today the DRK Oldendorf local association has around 140 members.
The association's early activities included first aid courses, nurse assistant courses and blood donations. Sending parcels to the GDR was also a significant part of the work, before the focus shifted over the years to caring for senior citizens.
Diverse offers for seniors
The association currently offers numerous events that are specifically tailored to the needs of older people. These include coffee afternoons, trips, celebrations and training for caring relatives. Every Tuesday, seniors meet from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the community center at Hauptstrasse 14, where Adelheid Schlegel organizes the program. Around 20 seniors regularly take part.
Based on the popularity of the blood donation appointments that take place in the communities of Estorf, Burweg, Kranenburg, Heinbockel and Oldendorf, they are being planned again after a break. The next blood donation date is scheduled to take place in September. In addition, the DRK Oldendorf local association is introducing used clothing collections, which are organized in various communities.
Anniversary celebrations
To properly celebrate the 50th anniversary, an anniversary celebration will take place on June 14th. This includes greetings, musical performances and honors. An open day is planned for June 15th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the village hall at Dreschkamp 1. Here, visitors can take part in various activities, including the presentation of a heavy-duty ambulance, an operational exercise by the youth fire department, children's activities and information from the DRK motorcycle squad.
A special highlight will be the raffle, which offers 200 prizes and was sponsored by local companies. This not only offers a great opportunity to bring community residents together, but also to promote the club's social commitment.
The DRK Oldendorf local association shows how important the community is and what role long-term commitment plays for seniors and society. These 50 years of service to senior citizens reflect the tireless commitment and passion that goes into the work of the association.
