Plochingen inspires: Bruckenwasen – a place for young and old!
The Bruckenwasen landscape park in Plochingen is a popular retreat for the local population and visitors. The green area, which was developed in 1998 as part of the 16th Baden-Württemberg State Horticultural Show, offers a diverse recreational area covering a total of 16 hectares. As a former wasteland on the banks of the Neckar, the park represents nature conservation and local recreation. It connects the natural landscapes of the Neckar and Fils with the city of Plochingen and thus enables an idyllic stay in nature.
The large meadow between the Steiner meadow and the playground is particularly attractive and is often used by families and groups for picnics, games and relaxation. On nice days, visitors literally crowd into this oasis of relaxation. The meadow is the heart of the park, surrounded by a Corten steel sculpture by the artist Wolfgang Thiel, which has been there for seven years and is available on loan.
Diverse activities and offers
The offerings at Bruckenwasen are just as diverse as the crowd of visitors. In addition to a popular beer garden, which has been run by Susanne and Reinhard Steiner for almost 30 years, private parties, art exhibitions and concerts take place regularly. The beer garden is an attraction for young and old and hosts many visitors on the weekends, often including cyclists.
The Le Cochonnet boules club provides sporting activities and uses the boules courts three times a week. These are also accessible to non-members. Sports groups such as yoga and qigong also take place regularly in the park, which contribute to the community's active lifestyle. The cricketers have also chosen the park for their games, where they play with tennis balls due to the crowds.
Citizens' initiative and maintenance of the park
A citizens' initiative, coordinated by Monika and Manfred Philipp, takes care of the maintenance of the park. The volunteers are active from April to October and ensure that the meadows are always in good condition. A mowing team takes care of lawn care every week to every three weeks, while a weeding group is responsible for removing weeds and maintaining the beds. Positive feedback from park visitors is particularly important for this initiative and confirms the joint effort.
The park's accessibility is also ensured, with wheelchair-accessible walking paths allowing everyone to explore the green idyll. There is a steam railway in the area, which is considered to be the longest park railway in Germany and covers a distance of 1.2 kilometers. The Neckar-Fils Environmental Center also provides information about the flora and fauna along the Neckar and Fils, and the fruit and horticultural association's show and educational garden offers a variety of fruit trees as well as medicinal and aromatic herbs.
The Bruckenwasen thus remains a real anchor point for the community and offers everyone who visits it a soothing break in the middle of nature. How esslinger-zeitung.de reports, many visitors appreciate the relaxed atmosphere and the numerous opportunities for activity and relaxation in Bruckenwasen, an “oasis of relaxation”.
Born out of the desire for a connection between city and nature, the Bruckenwasen has developed into an important part of life in Plochingen, supported by the commitment of the citizens' initiative and the diverse offerings that the local recreation area has to offer.
