VfB legend Guido Buchwald delights children in Holzgerlingen!

As part of the membership campaign "VfB im Ländle", the football legend Guido Buchwald visited the beauty booking in Holzgerlingen on July 2, 2025. Around 70 children and adolescents, including participants from the Waldhaus youth welfare, had the opportunity to meet the former world champion. The visit is part of the “District Competition 2024” of VfB Stuttgart, in which the Böblingen district took fifth place and received support for a social project.

The organization of an event by the Waldhaus youth welfare was particularly gratifying, in which all four areas of the Waldhaus were represented. Mayor Ioannis Delakos, Rudi Sendersky, Vice President of the Böblingen sports district, and other prominent guests, including President Matthias Schöck from the Württemberg Football Association, were also present. Guido Buchwald was impressed by the commitment in working with children and adolescents and emphasized the importance of such initiatives.

Buchwald tells of his memories

In an interactive question and answer session, moderated by Marcel Yassine, spokesman for the Holzgerlingen youth council, the children had the opportunity to ask questions about Buchwald's career. Among other things, they were interested in his role models, trophies and nicknames "Diego". It became particularly emotional when Buchwald reported on his World Cup final in 1990 against Argentina, which caused goosebumps among those present. He was part of the German national team who won the world championship in 1990 and played in 76 international matches.

The demand for souvenir photos and autographs was great. In the second part of the afternoon, a one -hour training session took place on the artificial turf pitch, which was supported by the youth management of SpVgg Holzgerlingen. For the children who are less sporty, the Waldhaus team offered a football darts station to enable everyone to participate.

thanks and gifts for the participants

All participants wore red T-shirts that were donated by Elektro Breitling. Drinks for the children came from drinks of Zwirner. To the delight of everyone, the children were allowed to take home footballs, Fritzle-Sticker and an autograph from Guido Buchwald at the end of the day.

Guido Buchwald was born in Berlin on January 24, 1961 and played as a defensive midfielder. After moving to the Stuttgart Kickers in 1983, he spent eleven years at VfB Stuttgart, for which he played a total of 387 competitive games. Buchwald won the German Championship in 1984 and 1992 and the DFB Cup final 1986 with the VfB. He ended his active career in 1999, but remained connected to football as a member of the honorary and supervisory board of VfB Stuttgart. He was appointed honorary captain on May 8, 1994 for his services. According to VfB Stuttgart, such events are of central importance to strengthen the connection between club legends and youth.
