Trouble before the street festival: Sindelfingen is threatened with a unity shock!
The International Street Festival in Sindelfingen, which will take place from June 13th to 15th, 2025, faces a special challenge. The event, which attracts people from more than 120 nations and celebrates diversity and unity, recently caused an uproar with the cancellation of a member club. Krzbb reports that this rejection was perceived as insulting and showed that the unity in Daimlerstadt had cracked. In particular, the Sindelfingen local council has criticized the alleged commercialization of the festival, which has led to tensions within the organization.
Mario Marino, who has been chairman of the International Street Festival Association (ISF) for a year and a half, now faces the challenge of restoring the unity previously created. However, preparations for the festival are already in full swing, and a partnership evening will take place on June 12th at 6 p.m. in the Sindelfingen town hall to strengthen the connection and exchange with the partner cities.
Diverse program for visitors
The official opening of the street festival will be on June 13th at 7 p.m. by Mayor Dr. Bernd Vöhringer and Mario Marino. The twin towns of Sindelfingen, including Corbeil-Essonnes, Chelm, Dronfield, Györ, Schaffhausen, Sondrio and Torgau, will be represented with stands and performances on the twin town square on Ziegelstrasse and the corner of Planiestrasse. Visitors can look forward to international specialties, dance performances and musical performances.
A varied stage program awaits guests - from singing, jazz and rock to folkloristic performances. Particularly noteworthy are the performances by “Fire Fingers” on Friday evening and the ROYAL SONESTA JAZZBAND on Saturday and Sunday. To ensure a smooth journey, a parade will stop at several stops.
Logistical challenges and limitations
Still, there are some logistical challenges that accompany the preparations for the street festival. During the festival, the streets in the festival area will be completely closed and access to the underground car parks will only be via certain entrances. What is particularly relevant here is that the underground car park on the market square is not accessible during the entire event. The weekly market on June 14th will also be moved to Vaihinger Straße to take the changes into account.
Visitors should also note that some bus stops cannot be accessed and they are asked not to carry large bags or backpacks. Comprehensive planning and communication are necessary to ensure the diversity and unity that the International Street Festival stands for this year too.
Despite the controversy so far, the street festival promises to be a highlight in Sindelfingen's event calendar and promote cultural connections.
