Green oasis in the Oxford district: 53,000 square meters for relaxation and sport!

On Friday, October 10, 2025, KonvOY GmbH opened new green spaces in the north of the Oxford Quarter in Gievenbeck that are open to the public. This measure is part of a comprehensive urban development project that is intended to create not only living space, but also rich recreational areas. The largest of these new green spaces, the “Green Funnel”, was officially inaugurated on this day and can now be accessed from the north for the first time in 90 years.

With an area of 53,000 square meters, the green spaces offer space for sports, relaxation and social interaction. The newly created facilities include an extensive meadow landscape, a parkour facility, a boules court, a bacon board field and multifunctional sports fields. This design not only promotes residents' leisure activities, but also supports climate-adapted urban development, which includes the removal of sealed areas and the planting of 130 new trees to improve flood prevention. According to stadt-muenster.de, the Oxford district also offers 90,000 square meters of public recreational space on a total of 260,000 square meters of development space.

Progress in the Oxford Quarter

The opening coincided with significant progress in the Oxford Quarter, one of the largest urban development projects in Münster. Subarea D3, the northernmost area in the district, is largely completed. A total of nine buildings were built in the D3 area, including 104 publicly subsidized rental apartments and 40 condominiums. Almost all of these new buildings have already been occupied, while two buildings are nearing completion, as muenster-blick.de reports.

In sub-district A, which is currently in the construction phase, several new buildings are being built to form the “Green Hamlet”. This component of the project will include cooperatively financed small apartments and shared spaces to create a vibrant neighborhood.

Official inauguration and outlook

The opening was particularly festive and was attended by, among others, Münster's mayor Maria Winkel, district mayor Stephan Brinktrine and Stephan Aumann, managing director of KonvOY. The planners from the city of Münster showed the guests around the new green spaces and presented the future developments in the district. Investors also explained realized and planned projects that are intended to significantly improve the quality of life of residents in the region.

The creation of such green spaces, combined with living space and social facilities, reflects the desire to promote sustainable and livable urban development. The Oxford Quarter will not only contribute to improving living conditions, but will also make a valuable contribution to strengthening social cohesion in the community.
