Huge fire in Mühlhausen: 600,000 euros worth of damage to a residential building!
On Friday evening, May 24, 2025, a devastating fire broke out in an apartment building in VS-Mühlhausen around 11:45 p.m. The exact cause of the fire is still unclear, as is both Black Forest messenger as well as that Swabian newspaper report. The alarmed residents first reported a fire on the terrace of a wood-clad former farmhouse.
When the police and fire brigade arrived, a mobile home was already on fire and the fire had spread to the adjacent house facade and the roof structure. With the support of post-alarmed fire departments from Schwenningen and Weigheim as well as a management group from Schwenningen, the emergency services were able to bring the situation under control until the early hours of the morning.
Damage and evacuation
The resulting damage amounts to around 600,000 euros, and the apartment building remains temporarily uninhabitable. Luckily, nine residents were able to get to safety in time and were uninjured; they have temporarily stayed with relatives. To ensure the safety of the emergency services, the power supply to the affected building was interrupted, which also led to power outages in surrounding houses. A makeshift power supply will be set up on Saturday morning.
The Schwenningen police station has started an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. The importance of these investigations is highlighted by the vulnerable nature of fire causes, which, according to the IFS (Institute for Loss Prevention and Loss Research of Public Insurers), are often due to electricity or human error. In 2022, around 2,000 fire cause investigations were carried out, which are documented in a damage database to ensure continuous improvement in safety measures, such as FeuerTrutz informed.
The community in VS-Mühlhausen is called upon to be careful and minimize potential fire risks, especially given the most common causes of fire listed in the statistics. The incident highlights the relevance of preventive measures to prevent fires and the need for rapid and effective emergency management.
