The wine hike in Winterbach, which was launched four years ago, once again attracted locals and guests to the region's picturesque landscape last Whit Saturday. The starting signal for the hike was given at the large playground in Niederhausen. With specially made wooden signs engraved with a wine glass, hikers were guided along the six-kilometer trail that led through the surrounding vineyards. Many guests, including participants from the Kaiserslautern district, came with appropriate shoes and clothing to enjoy the event to the fullest.

A sociable experience

Local mayor Andreas Weizel expressed his delight at the positive atmosphere at the start of the hike. The main motives of the participants were exchange, wine tasting and exercise in nature. At the carefully planned wine stops, hikers were able to taste regional wines, with the “Rotling” served arousing particular demand. The convivial conclusion of the event was generally perceived positively by the participants.

The event has now established itself as a unique selling point for Winterbach. Last year, flooding reduced the response to the hike, but this year the weather was optimal, which boosted the number of participants. Weizel highlighted the attractiveness of the hike, which took place in a beautiful setting with good wine and conviviality.

One of the most beautiful hiking tours runs along the Remstal cycle path, which stretches over 80 kilometers and leads through picturesque vineyards and villages. For families with children, the fairytale forest hiking trail is an attractive option, where children can meet fairytale characters. Another highlight is the orchard trail, which offers insights into traditional rural life. These routes lead through rolling hills and flowering fruit trees; the hiking opportunities are particularly beautiful in spring and autumn.
