Fire drama in Ellwangen: 15 cows die, 650,000 euros in damage!

In the Ostalb district, a tragic fire occurred in a cattle stable in Ellwangen on Sunday evening. According to information from Time The owners of the farm noticed the fire around 8:15 p.m. Despite the quick response, 15 animals could not be saved and died in the flames. The estimated total damage amounts to 650,000 euros.

The fire department was alerted when the stable was already ablaze. As a result, 78 fire departments from Ellwangen and Röhlingen with 13 vehicles were deployed. Their main focus was to protect adjacent residential buildings, as the distance between the stable and the residential building is only 3 to 4 meters. A tree about 30 meters away was also ignited by flying sparks.

Efficient firefighting

The fire department mobilized various water sources, including a pond 600 meters away as well as a cistern and the municipal water network. Before it could be extinguished, however, straw had to be removed by a demolition company. The Ellwangen fire department left the scene at around 1 a.m., while the comrades from Röhlingen took over the fire watch until around 6 a.m.

Although a large number of animals were rescued, the cause of the fire remains unclear. The police have started an investigation and suspect a technical defect as a possible cause of the fire, but this is not yet certain. An expert should help clarify the circumstances of the fire, they report Swabian Post.

Firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading to the adjacent home and no one was injured. Still, the incident shocked the community and highlighted the potential dangers of barn fires in the region.
