Heidenheim star Pieringer: ankle surgery – how long will he be out?

Marvin Pieringer, the 1. FC Heidenheim striker, will sit out for the time being due to a recent operation on his ankle. The club announced on Tuesday that Pieringer underwent surgery last week after suffering increasing ankle pain. The exact period during which the 25-year-old will have to take a break is currently unclear. At the end of last year he was unable to play for around three weeks due to an ankle ligament injury. The current injury is apparently a result of this earlier injury, which still concerns him today. However, the operation is intended to improve the situation and make it easier for him to return to the pitch.

The situation escalated during the game against Bayer Leverkusen last Saturday. Heidenheim was already leading 2-0 in the 24th minute when Pieringer was injured without any influence from the opposition. He remained lying on the pitch with his face contorted in pain and had to be substituted after a three-minute injury break. This scene was described by Heidenheim's coach Frank Schmidt as a key moment of the game. After Pieringer's substitution, the game turned dramatically: Leverkusen equalized within just three minutes, and they added two more goals in the second half, leading to an unexpected 5-2 win for the hosts.

New challenges for Heidenheim

The defeat to Leverkusen is another setback for Heidenheim, who have now lost five of their last six Bundesliga games, with just one draw in that time. Schmidt was particularly dissatisfied with the way the goals were conceded, especially the fourth goal, and the team now urgently needs to get back on the road to success.

While the team tries to end the negative series, Pieringer will miss the Conference League game against Chelsea next Thursday at 6:45 p.m. Coach Schmidt expressed the fear that Pieringer was “probably more seriously” injured above the Achilles tendon. The situation represents a big challenge not only for Pieringer, but also for the entire team, as they have to try to get by without an important player.

The fans and officials of 1. FC Heidenheim are hoping for a quick recovery for the striker so that they can build on his performances again soon, while the team makes its adjustments to compensate for the consequences of his absence. How long Pieringer will ultimately be out remains to be seen.
