LUCIE urban railway: Protest in Ludwigsburg because of new route plans!
The plans for the light rail in the Ludwigsburg district are currently causing unrest in the western part of the city. The discussion about the alternative route has increased because it also entails the possibility of felling trees in the West Nature Park. The managing director of the Stadtbahn association, Michael Ilk, brought up this alternative route, which would leave the railway tracks in front of the station and stop at the western exit of the station. Originally, the reactivation of the old railway line from Markgröningen was planned as the easiest section, but the new considerations bring additional challenges. The Stuttgarter Nachrichten reports that the plans are developing rapidly with increasing citizen participation.
The population is actively involved in the planning process. Seven route inspections took place between March and October, during which citizens were able to express their wishes and suggestions. The citizen dialogue also extends to digital platforms, social media channels and internet forums as well as the association's website. The aim is to ensure the citizen-friendliness of the planning process and to include the opinions of residents.
Important steps in the planning process
The next milestone in the planning process includes cost determination and a benefit-cost analysis. These steps are essential to assess the economic benefits of the project. District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier emphasizes the challenge of reconciling the wishes of citizens and a trouble-free and environmentally friendly route. From (early) summer 2024, an interim result will be presented, which will also include events that promote discussion and workshops, as the information from the Public Transport Future Network underlines.
The investment cost subsidies, which can amount to up to 90 percent for the Markgröninger Bahn and 75 percent for the light rail sections, represent important financial support. A feasibility study is also planned for a possible extension of the light rail to Waiblingen, although the association is optimistic about the economic sense of this extension.
