Drilling for Ludwigsburg light rail: noise and first visibility from June!

Drilling for the Ludwigsburg light rail will begin on June 10, 2025, which is intended to create an important connection between Markgröningen and Ludwigsburg. The subsoil investigations are carried out at a total of 14 locations in three municipalities, namely Ludwigsburg, Möglingen and Markgröningen. These initial explorations are part of a comprehensive project to reactivate the disused railway line between Markgröninger Bahnhof and Talallee in Ludwigsburg.

The first visible and audible effects of the work are expected in the next few days. Loud Stuttgart News The work will last until June 13th, with each sounding taking around two hours. A total of four explorations are planned in Ludwigsburg, six in Möglingen and four in Markgröningen. The technology of ramming core sounding is used, which reaches a depth of around 6.50 meters.

Soil investigations and noise disturbances

The aim of these drillings is to obtain information about the nature of the soil, the strength of the subsoil and the groundwater conditions. The diameter of the proposed probes is between 50 and 80 millimeters. The work is accompanied by an expert office and takes place during the day on weekdays. Brief noise disturbances are to be expected in the surrounding area during this time.

In addition to the planned drilling, further investigations could follow from July 7th. These will be necessary in order to obtain the geological and hydrogeological subsoil data for the precise planning of the light rail system. Further information about the planned work and its process can be found at Urban railway association available.

LUCIE light rail and public participation

The Ludwigsburg light rail, which will be called “LUCIE”, will in future bring residents from Schwieberdingen and Markgröningen to Ludwigsburg, with the possibility of onward travel to Pattonville and Remseck-Aldingen. The urban railway association, founded to plan, build and operate the urban railway, will soon begin drafting and approval planning.

Citizens have already had the opportunity to participate in the project, with a naming competition taking place in October 2022 in which more than 2,000 people took part. In May 2025, residents had the opportunity to find out about the current status of the project at an information event.

At the end of the planning process there is a public plan approval procedure in which citizens can submit their comments. An independent authority, the Stuttgart regional council, will decide on the final plans. Further information is also on the website www.lucie-stadtbahn.de available.
