Helwig realizes his childhood dream: on the podium and on the race track!
On June 13, 2025, Helwig, an aspiring motorsports driver from Stuttgart, experienced the highlight of his career to date. Even though he thought his final position was incredibly cool, he couldn't quite put his finger on it at first. However, when his name was called and he was allowed onto the podium, he realized that he had fulfilled one of his childhood dreams. Helwig plans to take part in the prestigious 24-hour race at the Nürburgring, the largest car race in the world, in 2027. He would like to take further steps along this path this year.
In order to optimally prepare for this challenge, Helwig has planned to take part in two more BMW Challenge races. These races offer him the opportunity to achieve podium finishes, which could attract potential sponsors. The first race will take place in Oschersleben from August 22nd to 24th, followed by a second race at Hockenheimring approximately two months later. Helwig hopes to achieve a good position in the championship standings in a total of three races.
Felix Baumgartner: Another childhood dream
Another notable motorsport project is Felix Baumgartner's participation in the ADAC Zurich 24h race on the Nordschleife. Baumgartner, known for his impressive stratospheric jump, has nurtured the dream of taking part in this prestigious race since childhood. Preparations for this exciting event began in the fall of last year. In order to learn the racing skills, he was trained by Sepp Haider, a successful rally driver. He also completed three preparation races on the legendary race track.
The vehicle with which Baumgartner will compete is an Audi R8 LMS. In order to perfect his knowledge of the route, he used a simulator during the winter break and took part in tourist trips on the Nordschleife. He will share the car with experienced drivers such as Marco Werner, Frank Biela and Pierre Kaffer. In addition, Baumgartner has already gained important experience in the six-hour qualification race and in night training.
A look at the racing events
The schedule for the 24h race includes various events taking place from June 18th to 22nd, 2014, with the race itself starting at 4:00 p.m. on June 22nd, 2014. Baumgartner has now officially qualified for this challenging race, which represents the first big step in making his dream come true.
Both motorsport athletes, Helwig and Baumgartner, impressively show how dreams can become reality through commitment and hard work. Their stories are inspiring and testify to the fascination that motorsport holds. The Nürburgring therefore remains a central location for motorsport enthusiasts and dreaming drivers.
