Over 220,000 new balcony power plants: solar boom in the first half of the year!
In the first half of 2025, more than 220,000 new balcony power plants were installed in Germany, which keeps growth in the area of plug -in solar devices at the same level of the previous year. Carsten Körnig, General Manager of the Federal Association of Solar Economy, expressed himself optimistic and sees no relevant degree of demand. Diversity and accessibility of the systems make this technology particularly popular. The persistently high demand is caused by various factors, including legal relief that has been decided under the last federal government, as well as fallen prices for the facilities. These developments have further increased interest in solar power, which is reflected in the continuous increase in installations. In order to support the growing demand for solar power, the Bundestag has passed a comprehensive amendment to energy management law. This change in the law aims to avoid temporary generation surpluses and to set positive signals for operators: inside of solar power systems. The Federal Association of Solar Economics has considered the approval of Union, SPD and the Greens to the amendment to energy law, especially before the Bundestag election. This amendment brings with it some changes that affect new photovoltaic systems in particular. In the future, these systems will not receive an EEG remuneration for electricity, which will be fed into the network at times of negative stock exchange current prices. This regulation enables a compensation mechanism that includes a remuneration period extension, which can offer the operator: inside economic advantages. Solarwirtschaft has provided detailed information on these changes.
Changes for operators of solar power plants
The amendment contains several important changes:
- relocation of solar power feeding and EEG remuneration : However, new systems are no longer entitled to remuneration, which is fed in in times of negative prices, can benefit from the new regulations.
- installation of intelligent measuring systems (IMSYS) : The introduction of IMSYS is accelerated, which means control obligation for PV systems over 7 kWp.
- Reduction of the maximum feed -in power : New systems are subject to a limitation of the feed -in power to 60 %, provided there is no iMSYS.
- more flexible driving of saving : Over 80 % of the new PV systems are supplied with battery storage, which offer flexible uses.
These regulations are intended to increase the efficiency and economy of solar energy, while at the same time facilitating integration into the existing energy network. These measures aim to exploit the potential of solar energy even better and to promote the energy transition, which is gaining in importance due to increasing energy prices and the need to reduce fossil fuels.
