The circumstances under which the dismissals are to take place are particularly worrying. According to management, employees must resign by December 31, 2025 or January 31, 2026, taking into account the collective notice period. The employees were not offered any alternative positions within the company group. A sales manager recommended that employees reapply at other Kaufland stores at minimum wage, as if they had never worked in Albstadt.

Uncertain future and protests

The information about the layoffs was also provided by Swabian confirmed. Employees express significant doubts about the company's long-term construction plans. The planned renovation on Kientenstrasse, which is expected to take three to four years to complete, is causing many people to worry about their existence. These concerns are particularly pronounced among the employees who previously moved from the closed branch in Sigmaringen and are also affected.

In response to the drastic measures, the workforce has already begun protest actions and is planning legal action against the company's decisions. The management had previously assured that there were plans to distribute employees to other locations during the construction phase, but this assurance has now not been kept.
