There is currently an important recall of ginger powder, which was initiated by Ezogelin Gewürze GmbH from Heilbronn. The reason for the recall is proven harmful aflatoxins, also known as mold toxins. These substances can cause genetic damage and are potentially carcinogenic. The products affected are “Ginger ground Zencefil Toz” from the brands SUNTAT, YAREN and Ezogelin, which are available in two different packaging sizes: 60 grams and 120 grams. These contain the same batch number (254403) and have a best-before date of October 30, 2027. The recall affects federal states such as Baden-Württemberg, Berlin, Bremen, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Bavaria.
Consumers are urged to stop using the affected products and remove them from their kitchens. Returns are possible in any store and retailers are obliged to refund the purchase price even without a receipt. If you are unsure or have acute health problems, we recommend that you consult a doctor.
Dangerous aflatoxins
Aflatoxins are natural fungal toxins that pose health risks. Aflatoxin B1 in particular is considered one of the most dangerous aflatoxins for humans and can have acute hepatotoxic effects and carcinogenic effects at certain concentrations.
