In Uhingen, a town in the Göppingen district with around 14,000 inhabitants, a remarkable dream became reality: Achim Gall, a 69-year-old, long-time competitive swimmer, opened an outdoor swimming pool on his private property that is open to the public. After the property next to his own house became available, Gall fulfilled a lifelong dream by building this swimming pool. The construction costs amounted to around 250,000 euros, which he financed through the sale of two condominiums. The result is a modern outdoor pool with two lanes, which is intended to offer children in particular the opportunity to learn to swim.
Around 35 guests came to the ceremonial opening of the swimming pool on Tuesday afternoon, including Mayor Matthias Wittlinger and CDU state parliament member Sarah Schweizer. The multiple swimming world champion Franzi van Almsick was not present, but was invited, but had to cancel due to other commitments. The water temperature of around 21 degrees was rather cool for many of the guests, but Gall himself jumped into the water and showed his commitment to his project.
Planned offers and future prospects
Gall plans to create various offers for visitors. This includes swimming courses and special afternoons for children. The entrance fee for the outdoor pool is set at 3.50 euros, provided there are no courses taking place. The swimming pool will initially be operated by Gall himself, but he will also consider bringing in support if demand is higher than initially expected.
