Sweet reward for exemplary parking: Neumarkt celebrates traffic safety!
An innovative concept to promote road safety is being celebrated in Neumarkt. The Upper Palatinate Municipal Traffic Safety Association is launching a new campaign for drivers to park correctly, which will take place on June 21, 2025 during Road Safety Day. According to the information from NN.de The initiative is intended, above all, to promote respect and responsibility in road traffic.
The association has traditionally rewarded drivers who park legally for nine years. In contrast to the usual parking tickets for illegal parking, which are in the hands of traffic control, this year over 5,000 sweet surprises will be handed out. The exemplary parkers receive a thank you card, which is accompanied by a fruity chewy candy in FSC-certified paper packaging. This campaign is not only intended to create excitement, but also to raise awareness of proper parking practices. Simone Reinhardt, managing director of the association, emphasizes that these rewards show appreciation for correct parking behavior, which is an important element of traffic safety.
The importance of road safety
Mayor Markus Ochsenkühn supports the initiative and emphasizes the need for traffic monitoring. Illegal parking poses a serious safety problem, especially for vulnerable groups such as children and seniors. In addition, incorrect parking can have a negative impact on the deployment times of the fire brigade and emergency doctors. This is a fundamental concern that underlines the need for respectful interaction on the road.
The action in Neumarkt is part of a larger trend that can be observed in Germany. A campaign with the motto “Arrive better together” is currently running in Berlin and pursues similar goals. This initiative promotes respectful behavior in traffic and encourages self-reflection on one's own behavior. In the context of these considerations, it becomes clear that improving road safety must be viewed as a joint task.
The perception of road safety is also influenced by the experiences of citizens. According to a survey, 89% of participants believe they are considerate, but only 37% perceive other road users as considerate. Such discrepancies highlight the need for action in this regard. Both initiatives – both in Neumarkt and in Berlin – represent the desire for more mindfulness and safety in public spaces.
The distribution of the sweet rewards in 80 municipalities will appeal to a wide range of people and help strengthen the image of correct parking. Ultimately, the campaign should not only bring joy, but also lead to a lasting improvement in traffic safety in Neumarkt. Illegal parking can have fatal consequences, so every step towards responsible behavior on the road is worth it.
