Castles in the upper Filstal: New board and exciting lecture!

On October 19th, a new information board about the former Bühringen Castle in the municipality of Bad Überkingen was inaugurated. This event, which attracted around 60 interested people from Türkheim, Bad Überkingen and the surrounding area, was opened by the local mayor Beate Albrecht, mayor Matthias Heim and district archaeologist Michael Weidenbacher. Particular attention was paid to the archaeological aspects of the castle's history, which Weidenbacher explained in more detail during a tour of the former castle grounds. The board provides comprehensive information about the history and location of the castle, which existed from the first half of the 12th century to the early 14th century, and is now accessible to hikers and history enthusiasts Filstal Express reported.

Bühringen Castle, which is also incorrectly referred to as Überkingen Castle, was built around 1250 under the Counts of Helfenstein and was first mentioned in a document in 1258. The state of preservation of the complex is classified as a castle stable, which means that only remains such as ditches and ramparts are visible. Lecture about the castle landscape

Following the inauguration of the information board, a lecture took place in the Türkheim community center on October 22nd, which dealt with the castle landscape in the Helfensteiner Land. Under the title “The castles in the Helfensteiner Land – insights into a castle landscape”, over 20 castle complexes in the region were discussed. The castles mentioned include Hausen an der Fils Castle, Burgstall Mühlhausen im Täle, Tierstein Wallgrabenanlage as well as the castles Ravenstein, Roggental, Spitzeberg, Wachholderburren and Dürrental. The well-known castles of Helfenstein and Hiltenburg were also discussed in the lecture, which aroused the interest of the listeners.

After the lecture there was the opportunity for an exchange about castles and archaeological topics, which was actively used by the participants. The municipality of Bad Überkingen expressed its thanks to the Göppingen district archeology department, the Türkheim local administration and everyone involved who contributed to the realization of the event.
