New meeting place for seniors in Mondorf: opening on June 28th!

The Mondorf senior meeting place in Niederkassel opened its doors on June 3, 2025 after extensive renovation work. The Association for the Support of Senior Citizens in Niederkassel e.V. (VFSSN) has taken over the sponsorship of the facility and provides a diverse program for older citizens. From June 1, 2025, the meeting place will be operated at Meindorfer Str. 45, 53859 Niederkassel-Mondorf.

The regular opening times of the meeting place are every Tuesday and Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. During this time, seniors can enjoy various card and board games, take part in digital games with a games console or attend yoga and chair yoga courses, which are offered after the summer holidays. Another highlight is the inexpensive catering offering, which includes coffee, tea, cakes as well as sandwiches and sausages, all available in an inviting lounge and bistro corner.

Activities and opening ceremony

The meeting place is open to all seniors, including from the neighboring towns of Troisdorf, Bergheim, Müllekoven and Eschmar. A grand opening celebration is planned for June 28, 2025, where, in addition to getting to know the new premises, various activities will also be presented. In addition to the reopening of the Mondorf meeting place, the VFSSN also launched the “Neighbors for Neighbors” initiative, which promotes contact between seniors and volunteers. We are looking for volunteers for manual work, gardening and small accompanying services. This initiative demonstrates the commitment that the local community has for its senior citizens.

Further offers for seniors

Another notable project in Niederkassel is the new seniors' network ZWAR (Between Work and Retirement). People aged 60 and over, couples or single people are cordially invited to take part in the regular basic meetings in order to network together. Almost 200 people have currently come together to plan various activities such as walking, hiking and board games.

In addition, the seniors’ fair “Living in Niederkassel – growing old together” takes place every two years and serves as a platform for local associations to present their offerings. The next trade fair is scheduled for May 25, 2024 and promises an exciting cultural program as well as informative specialist lectures. Clinical and social consultations for seniors are offered every first and third Wednesday of the month in the town hall to discuss important topics such as applications to authorities and age-appropriate housing.

With the new offers that can be found in the Mondorf senior meeting center and the supporting initiatives of the VFSSN, it is clear that support for the older generation in Niederkassel has a high priority and should continue to be promoted.
