Eschenbach is planning a new community center: the building commission and the winning project have been chosen!

The Eschenbach local council has taken an important step towards a new community center by approving the preliminary project for the new building. This was announced on June 14, 2025. The decision in favor of the new building project aims to replace the current rental solution with a community-owned building. The advantages are obvious: The new building is intended to reduce running costs and ensure space requirements in the long term.

The planned community center will also unite the community and school administration under one roof and is centrally located in the “Breiten” area – a location with suitable land reserves. In order to implement the project efficiently and competently, the local council set up a property construction commission. This consists of various responsible people, including mayor Cornel Aerne, local councilor Petra Artho and other experts from various areas.

Composition of the building commission

The new commission is supported by the following members:

  • Cornel Aerne (Gemeindepräsident)
  • Petra Artho (Gemeinderätin)
  • Thomas Elser (Gemeinderatsschreiber)
  • Martin Hefti (Bereichsverantwortlicher Liegenschaften)
  • Roman Kuster (Betreibungsbeamter, Aktuar/Projektleiter)
  • Fredi Fäh (Schulverwalter)

In addition, Mario Roth from R+K Raumplanung AG and Roman Jud, the head of the caretaker, will be called in as an option and in an advisory capacity. In order to advance the planning, a supplementary loan of 130,000 francs was approved to support further planning of the project.

Project competition and jury

The planning for the community center is accompanied by a selection process according to the SIA standard, in which a total of 35 applications were received. After 15 offices were invited to submit projects, 13 anonymized projects were assessed by an expert jury. The jury, which consists of independent experts as well as representatives of the community and school, noted the high quality and diversity of the designs submitted.

The winning project called “Zaunkönig”, which was designed by the regionally based raumfinder architects, was unanimously selected. The features of the project include the use of wooden element construction, a well-thought-out spatial arrangement, plenty of daylight and high economic efficiency. The use of sustainable materials and the inviting forecourt design are other notable aspects of the winning project.

The public exhibitions of the projects are planned for October 21, 2024 in the Eschenbach village meeting place, where citizens can view the submitted designs. These tours are also open on October 22nd and 23rd from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The next steps include contract negotiations with the winning office and further processing of the project study. The aim is to refine the design and create a detailed cost calculation. A voting date for the project will be set in the near future. The implementation of the new community center in Eschenbach is continuing to take shape and could be a significant contribution to the future development of the community.
