Blues Festival in Paisley: Music, Community and Walls of Joy!

On June 8, 2025, Ontario's Paisley Bluesfest made its annual comeback, continuing the tradition that has been attracting music lovers annually since 2014. An inviting concert environment was created at the local hockey arena with acoustic panels and soft lighting to optimize the atmosphere for attendees. Festival President Zach Parker emphasized that the event's main goal is to promote public interest in the arts and bring the community together, especially after the challenges of the COVID pandemic. A pay-by-donation model enabled many to take part in the festival, supported by volunteers including members of the Rotary Club.

On Friday evening, guests enjoyed musical performances by Dan Walsh, Rod Jewell Band, Smoke Wagon Blues Band and the Vaudevillian Jug Band. Dan Walsh, a Canadian singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, opened the festival with his bluesy-bluegrass style. He is known for his extensive touring and has collaborated with numerous music legends. Walsh has co-produced over 40 albums and recently embarked on a new chapter in his career as a solo looping artist in 2012, releasing his third solo album, Outta The Jam. The Paisley Blues Festival has been trying to incorporate him into the line-up for many years and he finally managed to perform live on Friday June 6th, opening the festival's music program.

A diverse music program

The festival's line-up also featured a wide range of talent on Saturday. Audiences were able to enjoy performances from Nuclear Vibes, Alfie Smith, Ginger St. James, Mackenzie Blues Band and Johnny Max Band. Nuclear Vibes, consisting of Ken and Hannah Faith Ducker, presented a mix of covers and their own songs. Particularly notable was the presence of the Ducker family, including their two daughters, who enriched the festival with their enthusiasm.

The arena was optimally set up, with long tables arranged diagonally and a bar at one end, encouraging a convivial atmosphere. The event was organized in collaboration with Arran-Elderslie Council, who provided the venue and staff support. Proceeds from the festival go to a registered charity which supports local projects including playground equipment and a music award for Paisley Central School.

A community project with a lasting impact

The Paisley Bluesfest has proven to be a well-established tradition in the region. It brings together both local residents and new visitors and promotes the arts scene in the community. Zach Parker and his team are committed to continuing to increase interest in music and art and strengthen the community through events like this. This year was once again a successful step into the future of the festival, and many hope that it will continue to flourish in the coming years.
