Intercultural week in Nürtingen: diverse activities for everyone!

The Intercultural Week will soon start in Nürtingen under the motto “for it!”. The opening event will take place on Friday, September 19th at 8 p.m. with a concert by Yan Mushegera on Schillerplatz. From 6 p.m., a hands-on stand run by the Esslingen district deaconry association and the Caritas services will also offer fresh yeast plaits. These initiatives are symbolic of the effort to promote diversity and togetherness in the city, as ntz.de reports.

The Intercultural Week program includes numerous activities aimed at different age groups. On Sunday, September 21st, a service on the theme of “old braids” will be celebrated in the Luther Church. In order to do justice to the youngest citizens among us, there will be a picture book cinema in the city library on Monday, September 22nd, which will be directed by Silvia Peter.

Diverse discussion formats

A central theme during the Intercultural Week will be the discussion about social issues. On Monday, September 22nd, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., a discussion about anti-Semitism and anti-Muslim racism is on the program in the World Kitchen of the World House. At 7 p.m. there will be a lecture entitled “Longing for Peace. A Voice from Palestine” by Faten Mukarker in the Lutherhof.

Tuesday, September 23rd, also offers a wide range of activities, including an international lunch in the youth center at the train station as well as a tea tasting and role-playing games in the Welthaus Nürtingen. On Thursday, September 25th, young people can bring in their own cooking ideas in the youth center from 5 p.m., followed by a lecture on Syria after the fall of Assad at 8 p.m. in the glass hall of the town hall, hosted by Kamal Sido.

Cultural highlights and social reflection

Friday, September 26th, will be rounded off with a country kitchen in the Welthaus, while visitors can find out about culture, politics and ecology. There will also be a lecture on the topics of loneliness and radicalization with Simon Danco at 7 p.m. in the Bürgertreff. On Saturday, September 27th, a tea tasting will be offered in the Bürgertreff, before the car-free Sunday on September 28th in Tiefenbachtal invites you to join in on (old) braids.

The week ends with a screening of the film “Unity & Law & Diversity” on Monday, September 29th at 6:30 p.m., followed by a discussion. The film “I Capitano” by Amnesty International Nürtingen will also be shown on several dates, including Sunday, September 21st and Tuesday, September 23rd, in the Traumpalast. The World Children's Day, which takes place from September 23rd to 25th in front of the city museum, offers creative and sporting activities for children.

A special focus is on the media presentation on the topic of migration and integration in the city library, which will be offered from September 19th to 27th. Mayor Annette Bürkner emphasizes the importance of objectivity and attitude in the debates surrounding immigration and migration. Such events are not only platforms for exchange, but also crucial in the fight against exclusion, as the over 70 institutions that took part in comparable intercultural celebrations, such as the Intercultural Days in Marzahn-Hellersdorf in Berlin, show. The commitment against right-wing extremism and group-related misanthropy was highlighted, as interkultur-woche-berlin.de emphasizes.
