Notzingen: Mayor Hämmel is planning record-breaking energy savings!
The municipality of Notzingen reports encouraging progress in the energy efficiency of its municipal buildings. The community has a total of 24 buildings, whose energy and water consumption is regularly documented in an annual energy report. Since January 2023, changes have been noted in the energy report that indicate an increased focus on sustainable energy use. Mayor Hämmel announced that further energy saving measures will be implemented by the end of 2024 in order to further improve the efficiency of the infrastructure.
From 2016 to 2022, Notzingen managed to save a total of 144,830 kWh of energy and 94,057 liters of water. A total consumption of 265,000 liters of water and 279,381 kWh of energy is forecast for 2024. Hämmel emphasized that the municipality began implementing energy saving measures in 2020 and wants to continue these efforts until 2026. The aim is to support communities on their way to climate neutrality.
Recording of energy consumption as a basis
As um.baden-wuerttemberg.de explains, the municipalities in Baden-Württemberg are not yet climate neutral. However, one of the most important prerequisites for this is comprehensive knowledge and transparent presentation of energy consumption. Since 2021, municipalities have been legally obliged to record the energy consumption for the majority of main consumers in a central, free database.
For municipalities that have implemented municipal energy management (kEM), it is sufficient to upload total data and a corresponding energy report. The state also supports these measures financially in order to promote the introduction of comprehensive municipal energy management. With a total of 1.33 million euros, the municipalities and municipal associations will be relieved of the burden of recording their energy consumption for the first time, practical support that will also benefit Notzingen.
Systematic approaches to energy efficiency
The Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (IBP) emphasizes the crucial role of municipalities and districts in achieving national climate protection goals. This institution supports municipalities like Notzingen by creating municipal energy and climate protection concepts. These concepts include the analysis of climate protection activities and the creation of energy and greenhouse gas balances. Further aspects include the identification of savings potential and the development of specific energy indicators.
Support with strategic energy management for buildings, controlling concepts and feasibility studies on CO2 reduction potential are also part of the IBP offer. Such measures are important for Notzingen in order to achieve its goals for sustainability and active climate protection. With a combination of financial support, strategic concepts and municipal energy management systems, the municipality of Notzingen is showing that it is taking ambitious steps towards a sustainable future.
