Drama in Filderstadt: Barn fire leads to danger of building collapse!
On Saturday afternoon, June 7, 2025, a fire broke out in a barn and an adjacent vacant residential building in Filderstadt, in the Sielmingen district. Around 4:30 p.m., the police received several emergency calls indicating blazing fire and thick smoke. When the first emergency services arrived, flames were already coming from the roof of the affected building, which is located on Heußstrasse.
The fire brigade was quickly on site and deployed 13 vehicles and 63 emergency services. Despite the difficult conditions, the emergency services managed to prevent the fire from spreading and quickly extinguish the fire. The extinguishing work continued into the evening without any injuries being reported. Residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed to protect themselves from smoke.
Cause of fire and property damage
The exact causes of the fire are currently unclear and the police have begun an investigation. The affected building is uninhabitable for the time being and, fatally, is in danger of partially collapsing. A construction consultant from the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) was called in to assess the safety of the structure. The material damage is estimated at several hundred thousand euros, as reported by Stuttgarter Nachrichten.
During the operation, the energy supplier temporarily switched off the power in the area of the fire to ensure the safety of the emergency services. Sielminger Hauptstraße was temporarily closed, but was reopened around 6:45 p.m. The emergency services also did valuable work outside the scene of the fire to inform and protect residents.
Overall, the operation of the fire brigade and rescue workers was successful and without any injuries, which is not always guaranteed in such situations. Investigations into the cause of the fire are continuing and may shed light on how this devastating incident occurred. Reporting on the fire is expected to continue as soon as new information on the status of the investigation becomes available, as SWP explains.
