The Esslingen Burgstäffeleslauf, an event with history, is returning. After a break of 25 years, the race made a comeback in 2024, attracting 72 participants of all ages who took on the challenge of the 325 steep steps. These extend from the New Town Hall to the Inner Burgplatz, with the runner having to climb up to 50 meters in altitude over a distance of 300 meters. The fastest times were 1:25 minutes for men and 1:49 minutes for women, although running times between two and four minutes are also accepted. The first holding of the Burgstäffeleslauf dates back to the 1990s. The events took place in 1996, 1997 and 1999 before disappearing into obscurity for over two decades. The event is organized by the Esslingen-Postmichel Lions Association and receives active support from the city of Esslingen and sponsors such as Allianz and Kreissparkasse. As part of this charity event, the organizers are aiming to attract more participants to serve the good cause. The run is intended to build on the success of 1999 and collect as many donations as possible for Operation Clown Doctors and other children and youth projects in Esslingen, such as Running Shoe Factory reported.
