Beuren connects generations: RepairCafé and more in the community center!
A remarkable meeting place has been established in Beuren: the “Together-For-Each-other-Beuren” association offers a wide range of opportunities for exchange and support within the community. The regular events in the Protestant community center not only promote community, but also cooperation and dialogue between different generations. The initiative was launched to promote a lively neighborhood culture and includes projects such as a repair café, a literature circle, boules clubs and a lunch table that brings young and old together. The event takes place every Wednesday, each with new offers and topics.
A particularly striking project of the association is the recently opened RepairCafé, which was launched at the end of May 2023. Here, citizens can have defective items repaired while at the same time conserving resources and avoiding waste. The RepairCafé opens twice a month, every Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and also offers smartphone consultation hours. Young people are available to help visitors solve technical difficulties. Regional manager Elisabeth Markwardt recently handed over the regional budget plaque to the RepairCafé, which underlines the importance of the project and highlights the funding from LEADER Mittlere Alb.
Diverse offers for the community
The “Miteinander-Füreinander-Beuren” association not only offers repair services, but is also committed to the well-being of all generations in the community. A wide range is covered through advisory services, leisure activities for children and informative lectures to meet the needs of the residents. Manfred Lutz, an enthusiastic senior, was positive about the offer and was particularly happy about the mushrooms in the Bolognese sauce and the cherries given at lunch.
The basic equipment of the RepairCafé was financed with the help of grants from the regional budget, which made it possible to provide tools and small parts. This commitment not only polarizes the community, but also creates a valuable exchange of knowledge in the use of resources and sustainable action. The project-based actions strengthen a sense of community and bring people from different age groups together to exchange ideas and share knowledge.
The association's ongoing work shows how important such initiatives are for social cohesion. Further information about the events and offers can be found in the Beuren community bulletin and on the Protestant parish's homepage. It remains to be hoped that Beuren's example will set a precedent and similar projects will be launched in other communities.
