Literature festival by the lake: Rufus Beck inspires Böblingen with readings!

From June 19th to 22nd, 2025, the eagerly awaited city reading festival will take place in Böblingen at Elbenplatz on the Lower Lake. Readers and literature enthusiasts can look forward to a diverse program that focuses on exchange and encounters. Admission to the events is free, and daily opening hours are 9 a.m. to dusk.

The festival opens with a particularly entertaining highlight: On the first day, June 19th, the renowned actor and audio book speaker Rufus Beck will read from Mark Twain's work “On the Terrible German Language” at 7 p.m. This humorous essay, originally written in 1880, addresses the pitfalls and challenges of the German language in an entertaining way. Beck is known for his lively and interactive reading skills, which always captivate the audience. City planning officer Daniel Schreiner already appreciated this aspect at a similar event in Fulda, where Beck also read and thrilled the audience, as the Fuldaer Zeitung reports.

Variety of events

The City Reading Festival offers a wide range of readings for all age groups. On Friday, June 20th, author Gerlinde Feine will read from her book “Habseligkeiten” at 7 p.m. On Saturday, June 21st, it will be the turn of thriller author Nico Mahle, who will present his gripping novel “Disappeared” at 7 p.m. The festival concludes with a reading by Nelly Bergmann on Sunday, June 22nd at 3 p.m. from her novel “The Sea is Rushing in the Background”.

Saturday will be an unforgettable experience, especially for creative people: participants can put their artistic skills to the test during the “Paint Book Cuttings” activity. Paper-making workshops on Friday and hand-lettering on Sunday are also scheduled. These workshops take place between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. and 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., but are designed for a limited number of participants.

Literary adventures also in Fulda

Parallel to the City Reading Festival in Böblingen, a similar event took place in Fulda from July 18th to 21st, 2024. Here, Borgiasplatz was transformed into an open-air library, while Rufus Beck once again caused enthusiastic reactions with his reading skills. In addition to his performance, other events were also on the program, including a “scary night” with Edgar Allan Poe and a family reading day.

The aim of these events is to promote reading and imagination in society in both cities. Participation is free and requires no prior registration, ensuring that readers both young and old have the opportunity to explore and enjoy the world of books.
