S-Bahn chaos: road disruption causes a standstill between Herrenberg and Böblingen!

There are currently significant disruptions in S-Bahn traffic between Herrenberg and Böblingen. According to Gäubote there are currently no S-Bahn trains running there. The reason for this is a road disruption between Herrenberg and Nufringen. Technicians are on site to inspect the possibly damaged area, but the duration of the closure is still unclear, according to information from Deutsche Bahn AG.

Although the route is not completely closed, speeds are severely restricted. Due to this situation, the Stuttgart S-Bahn has decided to completely stop S-Bahn operations for the time being and use replacement buses instead. Regional and intercity trains can travel on the affected section at reduced speed. In addition, regional and long-distance traffic is also being hindered by a fallen tree between Horb and Neckarhausen, which also leads to delays.

Additional disruptions to S-Bahn traffic

However, the problems in S-Bahn traffic are not limited to this section. On Thursday, October 9, 2025, there were further delays and cancellations in the Stuttgart area. According to [Stuttgarter Nachrichten](https://www.stuttgarter-nachrichten.de/content.s-bahn-stuttgart- repairworks-bring-s1-aus-dem-takt-verspaetungen-und-ausfaelle.beaa834a-9e50-465e-9e44-b829d44953cf.html), repair work and a defective signal were the causes of this Disturbances. The defective signal in the city center has been repaired, but consequential deviations still exist on all S-Bahn lines.

A defect on the route between Bad Cannstatt and Esslingen particularly affects the S-Bahn lines S1, S2 and S3. The S1 line currently only runs between Herrenberg and Plochingen/Wendlingen. A replacement service with Fischer buses was set up for the route between Plochingen and Kirchheim. The delays and partial cancellations therefore affect lines S1, S2 and S3. The Stuttgart Transport and Tariff Association (VVS) recommends that passengers find out about current connections before starting their journey.
