New wind in Uri: Benedikt Felder takes over for Beat Looser!

In the canton of Uri, there has been a change in the Swiss Mountain Aid's volunteer group of experts. Beat Looser said goodbye to his position after eleven years and handed over responsibility for aid projects in the canton to Benedikt Felder from Sempach. Looser's official farewell took place on May 21, 2025 in a ceremonial setting at which Government Councilor Urban Camenzind thanked him for his many years of commitment. During his time, Looser has supported numerous projects in the areas of agriculture, tourism and small businesses.

In his speech, Camenzind acknowledged the extensive knowledge that Looser had acquired about the canton of Uri over the years. “We will remember your service,” said the government councilor, who also wished Looser’s health and leisure time for the future. Benedikt Felder, who will act as the new regional expert, already has experience in regional development and will continue the existing work seamlessly. His voluntary work includes the support, assessment and support of funding projects in economically weaker regions of the canton of Uri. Swiss Mountain Aid continues to rely on volunteer specialists to ensure local expertise and to successfully advance aid projects. Tagblatt reports on the change and the hopes associated with the new expertise.

New structures for the tourism department

In addition to the change in the cantonal division, there is also news in the tourism policy area of Swiss Mountain Aid. The organization has welcomed two new volunteer subject matter experts: Reinhard Spahr and Max Nadig. Both will take over responsibility in the tourism department after Werner Bernet stepped down after twelve years. During his term in office, Bernet examined 129 tourism projects in the mountain area, of which 115 were approved. These projects were supported with around 14.2 million francs from Swiss Mountain Aid htr.ch reported.

Reinhard Spahr was previously deputy head of the special financing department at Graubündner Kantonalbank, while Max Nadig worked as an independent tourism consultant and president of Toggenburg Tourismus. With your support, Swiss Mountain Aid, which currently has a total of four tourism experts, will continue to aim to strengthen mountain regions through targeted funding projects. The other two experts in the team are Thomas Allemann, member of the management team at HotellerieSuisse, and Christoph Rohn, director of the Thun Hotel Management School. Together they should further promote tourism development in the mountain areas and optimize existing projects.
