5 days, 5 adventures: Swabian Alb captivates hikers!

The Swabian Alb Association, represented by the local groups Isny and Wangen, organized an impressive 5-day hike that took participants into the breathtaking nature and cultural treasures of the region. This event took place from June 12th to 16th, 2025 and offered the 11 hikers a multi-faceted experience that combined nature, history and culture. The hike was led by Manfred Mühleisen and Jürgen Tischer and was all about an intensive examination of the unique landscape of the Swabian Alb.

The first day began with a city tour in Donaueschingen, where the hikers visited the source of the Danube. This was followed by a short hike along the Danube tributaries and through the Princely Fürstenberg Park. These insights into the history of the region immediately represented an exciting start to the coming days.

Hiking stages with many highlights

On the second day, the tour led over 13 kilometers to the monastery lakes and up to the ladder to heaven. The hikers had the opportunity to visit a Jewish cemetery and enjoy an impressive view of Hohenzollern Castle. The third day brought a 14 kilometer long hike through Bergfelden, which led over the Zick Zag path and the Mühltalblick. Here the participants were able to fully enjoy the wonderful views of the Swabian Alb landscape.

The fourth day was characterized by the 10 kilometer long hike to Gruol, which led through idyllic villages and green meadows. On the final day, a tour of the Kirchberg monastery grounds in Sulz am Neckar was on the agenda, followed by a visit to the test tower in Rottweil. These classic Swabian experiences completed the cultural and nature-oriented concept of the hike.

The Albsteig and its diversity

Beyond the event, the tour also highlights the importance of the Albsteig Swabian Alb. This main hiking trail (HW1 Nordrandweg of the Swabian Alb Association) extends over around 390 kilometers from Donauwörth to Tuttlingen. The long hike offers various stages, including the tour from Donauwörth to Heubach, which covers around 121 kilometers in five hiking days. The hikers have to climb a total of around 8,000 meters in altitude.

The Swabian Alb is particularly attractive in spring and autumn, and the best months for a hike are May, June, September and October. Registration options and details about accommodation can be found on the relevant platforms, which also offer additional options for relaxing activities.

Thanks to the successful organization and the interesting program design, the participants of the 5-day hike were able to rediscover their connection to nature and community and experience the cultural facets of the region up close. The hike was not only a sporting event, but also a valuable contribution to the cultural identity of the Swabian Alb.
