On Friday morning, June 13, 2025, the Stuttgart fire department was called to a fire in an attic apartment on Fauststrasse in Stuttgart-Vaihingen. The report of smoke development was received around 8:12 a.m. from craftsmen who were working on a neighboring building. When they arrived, the fire brigade noticed slight smoke and a smell of burning in the building.

Fortunately, there were no more residents in the building at the time, which defused the situation. A respiratory protection team was immediately sent to the affected apartment to investigate. Investigation revealed that a refrigerator was on fire, which was the cause of the fire. In order to prevent major damage, the emergency services immediately started extinguishing the fire.

Effective firefighting measures

The fire brigade carried out an internal attack with a fire pipe and also used a turntable ladder. Thanks to these quick and professional measures, ignition and an open roof fire were prevented. For subsequent extinguishing and control work, it was necessary to open the roof area at the ridge, where embers were extinguished and the roof was then secured with tarpaulins and wooden slats.

In total, various units of the Stuttgart fire department were involved in the operation. These included the professional fire department from fire station 2, a fire engine from fire station 5 and the Vaihingen volunteer fire department with a fire engine. The emergency services were also represented, with an ambulance from fire and rescue station 5 being used.

The challenge of fire extinguishing operations

A similar operation, which illustrates the coordination of the fire brigade, occurred on March 5, 2022 in Seiboldsricht. There was a fire on an agricultural property and several fire departments were alerted. Early action prevented the flames from spreading to neighboring homes, while rescuing farm animals was also a top priority.

In both cases it becomes clear how important effective firefighting tactics and well-coordinated cooperation between the various fire brigade units are. The challenges range from fighting the fire to ensuring the safety of people and animals, which presents the emergency services with immense tasks.
