Runoff election in Münster: This is how you can cast your vote on September 28th!
Today, September 24, 2025, the runoff election in Münster is getting closer. The election office in Stadthaus 1 has been open since Wednesday, September 17th and will be accessible to citizens until Friday, September 26th. During this time, poll workers can: www.stadt-muenster.de/wahlen/wahlhelferde be reported. The election office's regular opening hours are Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. However, on Friday, September 26th, the office will close at 3 p.m. An additional offer is available on Saturday, September 20th, when opening hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Helpful information to ensure a smooth election can be found on the city's website. If there is no voting notification, a valid identification document is sufficient to take part in the election.
Voter notification and voter register
In order to vote, citizens must be registered on the electoral roll, which is confirmed by receiving a voting notification. However, this does not have to be presented in the voting room. It is important that an ID card or passport is required when voting. If an election notification has not been received, this could indicate a lack of registration in the electoral roll. In such a case, participation in the election will not be permitted unless the person concerned clarifies the situation with their community in advance. Federal Returning Officer recommends that all those who have not received an election notification by the 21st day before the election, i.e. by February 2, 2025, should contact the relevant municipality to view their electoral roll.
The legal basis for these regulations is set out in Section 56 BWO and applies to all elections in Germany, be it at the federal, state or local level.
Eligibility provisions
Eligibility to vote in Germany is clearly regulated. In federal and state elections, voters must be over 18 years old and have German citizenship. However, in some federal states, such as Brandenburg, Bremen and Baden-Württemberg, the voting age in local elections is lowered to 16. It is also important that those eligible to vote have lived in Germany for more than three months and are registered in the voters' register. Automatic registration usually occurs when the main residence is registered. If you move shortly before election day, it is advisable to register in the municipality's electoral roll in good time to avoid misunderstandings. Handbook Germany also offers comprehensive information on voting modalities and voters' rights.
The Citizens' Hall of the Historic Town Hall will be open on election evening to present the counting results from 6 p.m. For further information on the upcoming runoff election and a review of the election evening on September 14th, please refer to the city's relevant offers.
