Suspicious father isolated children in northern Italy - drama revealed!
In a shocking case of neglect, two neglected brothers aged 6 and 9 were discovered in Lauriano, a small town in northern Italy. The boys, who were born in Germany, lived in isolation on a farm in the Piedmontese forest, about 30 kilometers from Turin. Their father, a 54-year-old sculptor, had left the children in this isolation for fear of Covid-19. Until they were discovered, the children had no registered names and could barely speak. They wore diapers and had alarming hygiene conditions.
As antennemuenster.de reports, the brothers were found by chance during an evacuation after a flood in April 2025. The case has only now received attention, highlighting the gravity of their situation. The parents, Dutch citizens, previously lived in Germany before moving to Italy. The 54-year-old father was against vaccinations and the requirement to wear masks, which may have played a role in the children's isolation.
Shocking living conditions
Police found that the children lived in precarious hygienic conditions and never attended school. The juvenile court declared the parents unfit to care for the children and the siblings were immediately taken into care by social services. An adoption process was initiated by the youth prosecutor's office in order to offer the children a safe home.
A similar case of child neglect occurred in Spain, where three children aged eight and ten were forced to live in a house on the outskirts of Oviedo. Her parents kept her locked in the house for almost four years due to a severe fear of Covid-19. According to faz.net, the children wore dirty pajamas and diapers and did not have the opportunity to go to the garden or go to school.
Urgent need for action
The children were in a state that even alerted the authorities after a neighbor heard noises and became suspicious. The parents were arrested and the children were placed in state care. As in the case of the brothers from Italy, this also shows how deep and far-reaching the effects of excessive fear can be in times of crisis.
These two cases raise questions about how to deal with psychological factors during the pandemic and their impact on the youngest members of our society. Both incidents show that there is an urgent need to address the needs of children in isolated and precarious living situations. Only through quick action by the authorities and social awareness can we prevent such tragedies in the future.
