Saskia Esken: Entry in the Golden Book of Winnenden as a sign of solidarity!
On June 17, 2025, Saskia Esken, the co-chair of the SPD, ceremonially entered the Golden Book of the city of Winnenden. This ceremony took place as part of a SPD honors afternoon in the Awo rooms, where Esken was honored for her commitment as a member of the Bundestag for the Calw constituency. She has been representing the interests of her voters for twelve years now, and in the current legislative period she also acts as a “supervisory representative” for the Waiblingen constituency. Their goal is to bring news from Berlin to Winnenden and vice versa. This initiative is intended to strengthen the direct exchange between politics in the capital and the needs of local citizens. zvw.de reports that Esken received great appreciation for her many years of service as a member of parliament.
Esken sets clear priorities in her political offices. One of her current positions concerns the federal government's financial challenges. She has spoken out in favor of temporarily suspending the debt brake in order to create more scope for government spending. This is particularly necessary in view of the pressing issues of climate change, digitalization and demographic change. In this assessment she receives support from the German Federation of Trade Unions and from the head of the economists, Schnitzer. Deutschlandfunk points out that the debate about the debt brake is particularly important in the context of the invalidity of a reallocation of 60 billion euros in loans from 2021 declared by the Federal Constitutional Court on November 15, 2023 won.
Current political challenges
The loans originally approved to deal with the Corona crisis should have been used to finance climate protection measures and the modernization of the economy. However, after the Federal Constitutional Court declared this reallocation inadmissible, Esken sees the need for a reform of the existing financial framework in order to be able to respond appropriately to the challenges of the future.
As a member of parliament and party leader, Esken remains called upon to continually expand the dialogue between politicians in Berlin and the people in her home country. Their entry in the Golden Book is not only a recognition of their work, but also a symbol of the continuous exchange and the responsibility that politicians bear for their voters.
