Late Easter boosts hotel stays in Germany!

The late Easter date led to a significant increase in hotel overnight stays in Germany in April 2025. Loud ZVW Accommodation companies report a total of 41 million overnight stays, which represents an increase of 11 percent compared to the same month last year. The reason for this increase is the late location of the Easter holidays and public holidays in 2025.

In April 2024, many Easter holidays were already scheduled for March, which led to lower overnight stays in March 2025. In contrast, the number of overnight stays in April now benefits from the later public holidays. This development is supported by data from the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden, which shows a corresponding increase. Of the total 41 million overnight stays, 34.4 million were domestic guests, which corresponds to an increase of 12.4 percent compared to the previous year. Overnight stays by foreign guests rose by 4.1 percent to 6.6 million.

Overall positive development in tourism

In the first four months of 2025, accommodation providers recorded a total of 125.6 million overnight stays, a value similar to the level of the same period last year in the record year 2024. While the number of overnight stays by domestic guests rose by 0.1 percent to 104.4 million, accommodation establishments suffered a decline of 0.7 percent to 21.2 million overnight stays for foreign guests. This data can also be found in the press release Federal Statistical Office remove.

The results indicate an overall positive development in domestic tourism, supported by the record number of overnight stays. According to representatives of the Federal Statistical Office, the detailed figures and further developments will be published at the end of June 2025. Observations from the first months of the year suggest that the late Easter date plays a significant role in the seasonal booking dynamics.
