Stereolab inspires Schorndorf: An evening full of music and nostalgia!
In the almost sold-out factory in Schorndorf on June 21, 2025, over 450 fans experienced an unforgettable evening with the British band Stereolab. The event primarily attracted an audience with an average age of over 50. This special show not only celebrated the band's return after a 16-year hiatus with a new album, but also their 35th anniversary, underlining the importance of the evening. Known for their unique sound, Stereolab was formed in London in 1992 and consists of charismatic singer Laetitia Sadier and guitarist Tim Gane, who play crucial roles within the band.
The evening began with the support act Astrobal, the project of the musician Emmanuel Mario. He served as a gentle introduction to the concert and provided a connection to the main band, having previously worked with Laetitia Sadier. Astrobal prepared the audience for Stereolab, who took the stage around 9:30 p.m. and had filled the hall to capacity by then. The anticipation was clearly noticeable.
Unique sound and new music
Stereolab impressed the audience with a mix of indie rock, krautrock and space age pop. This was also reflected in their new album “Instant Holograms On Metal Film”, which was predominantly presented live. This album was described by critics as a mature version of different phases of the band and combines prog and art rock elements with catchy pop melodies. The live performance offered a straightforward interpretation of the album arrangements and was characterized by the driving energy of the electric bass, while the keyboard instruments remained in the background.
Laetitia Sadier, the central figure of the band, impressed with her singing as well as her playing on the electric guitar, the synthesizer, the trombone and the jingle ring. Her singing was often characterized by harmonic elements that are crucial for the typical Stereolab sound. Tim Gane, on the other hand, played rhythm guitar and stayed in the background, which underlined the dynamic balance within the band. Drummer Andrew Ramsay, keyboardist Joseph Watson and bassist Xavier Munoz Guimera remained mostly in shadow roles, keeping the audience's keen attention focused on Sadier.
Feedback and mood in the audience
The audience was consistently enthusiastic about the performance, which impressed with the complexity of the songs and the need for concentrated listening. The combination of creative sound and thoughtful arrangements turned out to be appealing. After the concert, the general enthusiasm in the audience was unmistakable. Fans seem hungry for the band's return and are looking forward to more.
Overall, the evening was a complete success for Stereolab, who not only showcased their musical roots but were also able to appeal to a new generation of listeners. The return to the music scene is not only a personal return, but also an important moment for the fans, who can hope for an exciting future with the concerts and the new album.
