Kierspe fire brigade saves jackdaw: animal saved, applause erupts!
On Monday morning there was a remarkable operation by the volunteer fire department in Kierspe. A young jackdaw had become trapped under the eaves of a house and was trapped by masonry and wire. The residents had enough courage and alerted the fire department, who responded quickly and professionally. At 9 a.m., Task Force 1 of the Stadtmitte fire brigade with around twelve personnel deployed to the scene, a building in which Harald Klingelhöfer runs an optician's shop.
The firefighters faced a challenge. Access to the Jackdaw was not possible from the inside due to an old chimney that was in the way. At first a large extension ladder was used, but this proved difficult. In order to save the situation, a turntable ladder was requested from Meinerzhagen to provide additional support. After several minutes of intensive work, the jackdaw was finally freed.
Rescue with skill and patience
A firefighter was well equipped with a ripping hook, bolt cutters and a hammer to free the jackdaw from its predicament. At 10:40 a.m. he finally managed to cut the offending piece of wire. The jackdaw was carefully placed in a box as people around responded with applause. Fire chief Mike Budde was also present and supervised the operation.
After the rescue, the jackdaw was taken to a nearby veterinary practice, where Dr. Utz Willich examined the animal. He determined there may have been a problem with a nerve and a foster home was offered for the jackdaw to aid its recovery.
Commitment of the Kierspe Volunteer Fire Department
The deployment of the Kierspe fire department not only shows the professionalism of the emergency services, but also their commitment to the community. The fire department is made up of different groups and characters. These include the children's fire brigade for young people aged 6 to 10 and the youth fire brigade for young people between 10 and 18 years of age, who receive age-appropriate training.
Another important aspect of fire service work is fire safety education, which is carried out by a team of seven fire safety educators in Kiersper kindergartens. Here, preschool children are taught about emergency calls, what to do in the event of a fire and how to deal with fire responsibly, and complete their training with water games. This comprehensive commitment not only contributes to the safety of citizens, but also promotes social interaction and teamwork among the young members.
