Train cancellations and replacement buses: Murrbahn completely closed for construction work!
Deutsche Bahn (DB) announces extensive construction work on the Murrbahn between Backnang and Murrhardt, which will take place from June 7th to 23rd, 2025. These measures are intended to modernize the infrastructure and affect several train connections in the region. During this period, significant restrictions on train traffic are to be expected, especially on the MEX 90 and MEX 19 lines, which will then not be able to operate continuously between Stuttgart and Gaildorf West. The DB reports that there will be a partial closure of the train every day from June 7th to 13th will come from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
On June 14th, the stop in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt is particularly affected, as trains on this route will not stop there on that day. From June 15th at 6 a.m. until June 23rd at 5 a.m., the section between Backnang and Murrhardt will be completely closed, which means that there will no longer be any through connections on the MEX 90 and MEX 19 lines. Travelers will have to switch to alternative means of transport.
Timetable and replacement concept
The DB has set up a replacement transport concept to minimize the impact of the construction work on passengers. According to deutschebahn.com, in the first few days, from June 7th to 13th, a replacement bus service will run every two hours between Backnang and Gaildorf West offered. From June 15th there will be a shuttle service every 30 minutes between Backnang and Murrhardt and a 60-minute service between Backnang, Murrhardt and Gaildorf West.
There are some important tips for travelers: the bus timetables differ from the regular train times, and bicycles are not allowed to be taken on the replacement buses due to space constraints. In addition, not all replacement stops are located directly at the usual train stations, so the DB recommends accessing the current information via bahn.de or the DB Navigator app. Digital maps via Google Maps and the Regio Baden-Württemberg website also provide information about the replacement stops.
Long-term investments and modernization
The upcoming construction work is part of a larger modernization project that will improve the control and safety technology between Backnang and Sulzbach. This project is intended to help increase the efficiency and safety of rail transport in the long term. Travelers are encouraged to inform themselves about the changes in good time so that they can plan their trips accordingly.
