Attempted murder in Backnang: Defendant remains silent despite serious allegations!
The trial of an attempted murder that occurred on November 1st last year at Backnanger train station began at the Stuttgart regional court. The 23-year-old defendant, who regularly consumes drugs, did not respond extensively to the allegations during the two days of the trial that had already taken place. Today the second day of negotiations lasted just under 30 minutes and had to be interrupted again. The next dates are scheduled for June 12th, when the first witness interviews will take place before the verdict is expected to be handed down on July 8th, after a total of three more days of proceedings. The trial should be supported by an expert whose participation is intended to continue and could provide important insights into the defendant's mental state.
The prosecution shows that the defendant carried out a knife attack on a passerby in an aggressive mood and after consuming drugs and alcohol. He first pushed and hit a martial artist who ran past him before he pulled out a folding knife and stabbed her neck and upper body. Thanks to her martial arts experience, the woman was able to partially avoid the stings. When she called for help and fled, the defendant followed for a short time, but gave up when he could no longer catch up with the passer-by. He was eventually arrested in a nearby parking garage.
living conditions of the defendant
His life is characterized by instability: After his parents separated, he grew up with his mother and stepfather, went through several schools and graduated with a secondary school diploma. During his life he had odd jobs and internships, lived with relatives at times and was dependent on citizen's benefit for two years. The defendant has been working as a warehouse assistant in Backnang since August, which underlines that despite his difficult circumstances he has tried to lead a normal life, but is repeatedly confronted with the challenges of drug use.
This case also sheds light on the ongoing problems of drug use in Germany. A publication of the REITOX annual report 2024 addresses developments in the area of illegal drugs and highlights aspects such as prevention, advice and treatment in prison. The interactive display in the report offers key key figures on the spread of drugs and their subsequent damage. Such information is crucial to understand the causes of incidents such as the knife attack and to develop preventive measures.
The trial is considered significant because it addresses both the criminal consequences of the defendant's behavior and the social and psychological aspects that can lead to such offenses. The progress of the process will be followed with great attention as it could provide insightful insights into the challenges of drug prevention and treatment for many affected people and the public.
