Concert inspires in Schwäbisch Gmünd – music therapy in focus!

This Saturday, May 26, 2025, a remarkable musical afternoon took place in the chapel of St. Anna in Schwäbisch Gmünd. Organized by Konstantin Wall, head of St. Anna since 2023, the concert's motto was to support music therapy in the facility. The event attracted numerous music lovers who listened to the sounds of the Stenzl piano duo.

Particularly highlighted was the use of a historic Schiedmayer Stutz grand piano from the early 20th century, which was donated to the chapel by a resident. The use of this instrument not only gives the concert a nostalgic value, but also underlines the importance of historical keyboard instruments in today's music scene. The Carl Bechstein Foundation is committed to the preservation and restoration of such instruments and plans to build up a significant collection of playable historical keyboard instruments in the coming years.

A musical experience

The concert began with Debussy's "Petite Suite", a work from 1888/89, which took the listener into a musical dream world with four characteristic movements:

  • „En Bateau“: eine musikalische Darstellung einer Bootsfahrt.
  • „Cortège“: Bilder einer Kinderschar.
  • „Menuet“: Hoftanz mit zärtlicher Einleitung.
  • „Ballet“: Darstellung von Tänzen und Sprüngen.

This was followed by Ravel’s “Ma mère l’oye” from 1908, an exquisite fairy tale suite inspired by Perrault’s stories such as “Sleeping Beauty” and “Beauty and the Beast”. This was followed by Moszkowski's “Suite From All Countries”, which musically represents different nations through a variety of character pieces. As the crowning conclusion of the afternoon, the pianists presented the waltz and polka by Shostakovich, which received long-lasting applause from those present.

The magical sounds of the Stenzl piano duo were not only based on technology, but also on passion and commitment to music. The two artists, who have repeatedly captivated the audience, are known, among other things, for their joint appearances and the performance of a wide-ranging repertoire. More detailed information about their previous events and programs can be found on the [Klavierduo Stenzl] website (https://www.klavierduo-stenzl.de/startseite.html).

A look into the future

The event in Schwäbisch Gmünd not only represents a cultural highlight, but also promotes valuable work in the field of music therapy. Thanks to such events, important social projects can be supported and older instruments such as the Schiedmayer Stutz grand piano can be valued. Concerts like this underline the importance of music in everyday life and its powerful effect on human well-being.

Through Konstantin Wall's initiative and the commitment of the Stenzl piano duo, enthusiasm for classical music and its healing powers will continue to be promoted. Hopes now lie in further projects that offer both musical enjoyment and social added value.
